The T3D Support Crew Checklist

How to be the Ultimate Travel Partner (Without Losing Your Mind).

1. The “Second-in-Command” Gear

  • The Shared Stash: Carry a backup supply of fast-acting carbs in your daybag (glucose tabs, honey packets, or juice).
  • The App Sync: If they use a CGM, have the “Follow” app set up and tested on your phone before you leave the tarmac.
  • Emergency Access: Know where their glucagon is located and exactly how to use it (practice with a trainer device if possible).

2. The Logistics

  • The Digital Vault: Keep a photo of their doctor’s letter and prescriptions on your phone.
  • The Pharmacy Finder: Save the location of the nearest 24-hour pharmacy for every city on your itinerary.
  • Translated SOS: Have a translation app ready with the phrase: “My partner has a medical emergency. They need a doctor/sugar.”

3. The Emotional Support

  • The “Low” Protocol: Discuss how they want to be helped during a low. Do they want you to hand them a juice box silently, or do they need a verbal reminder?
  • Food Flexibility: Be prepared to pivot meal times. If a blood sugar is stubborn, the “must-visit” bistro might have to wait 30 minutes.
  • The Hangry Shield: Remember that “Low Brain” is real. If they get snappy during a glucose crash, it’s the lack of sugar talking—don’t take it personally.

4. The T3D Mindset Shift

  • Own Your Oxygen Mask: You aren’t just a caregiver; you’re on vacation too. Set boundaries so you can enjoy the sights without constant “diabetes-policing.”
  • Trust the Process:  Your job is to be the partner in exploration, not the designated worrier.
